I played on Coach Smith's first state championship team way back in 1980 and the experience helped shape me into the person I am today. I also had the pleasure of playing against Irmo and Eastside back then and those teams were tough! What makes this group of men so special is not the wins and the championships, but the way they developed men out of boys.
Any of you that are old enough to remember the beginnings of soccer in South Carolina know how hard it was to get the beautiful game going in this football crazy state. I believe we owe a debt of gratitude to these men for providing the leadership to make soccer flourish in the palmetto state.
I will be there for the ceremony and I hope as many of you that can make it to Anderson will also be there to honor five truly great men.

This isn't just a great group of coaches but also a great group of men that care deeply about the young men they coach. Three in the group are also excellent joke tellers. Congrats to all of you and thanks for all you do!
